Robert Wagner Nominated
Robert Wagner of Oakville was selected
to be our Federal candidate at a nomination meeting held on February
6. With Halton's current MP wandering aimlessly around the floor
Rob feels Halton residents who had long standing affiliations
with other parties are now ready to support the NDP. Rob says
he is "fired up about the NDP". We are just as fired
up about Rob! You can learn more about Rob at his web site, robertwagner.ca.
We are looking for new members
to support our party and to support our local group and we are
looking for members to join our riding executive committee. No
matter what the issue, whether it is local, provincial or federal,
we want to hear from you. Use our contact

Humpty Dumpty is Broken!

Campbellville Jan 4 2006: At an
All Candidates meeting here this evening Anwar stated that "Humpty
Dumpty is broken. It's time for a change. It's time to vote for
the NDP." Anwar described Canadian politics. "You know
we vote for Humpty because he promises us this and that. After several
years of broken promises we get fed up and vote for Dumpty because
he promises change. Then we get another several years of broken
promises so we vote for Humpty again. Always Humpty - Dumpty and
always the same broken promises. Well Humpty Dumpty is broken. It's
time for a change. It's time to vote for someone new." "More
New Democrats can get more done for people, for the farmers in Halton,
for the elderly in Halton, for the youth in Halton, for workers
in Halton, for students in Halton, for the disabled in Halton, for
Women in Halton, for the taxpayer in Halton, for everyone in Halton
because only the NDP puts everyone on the same page. Only New Democrats
put social spending above corporate tax breaks. Our record shows
it." Anwar Naqvi
Halton's
New Democratic Party candidate.
In an unofficial poll on this web site, between
July and November 2005, 67% of respondents said they would vote
NDP. Vote for the party that gets results for people. Vote for
the candidate that will get results for Halton. Vote for Anwar
Naqvi. Use the candidate link above to learn more about Anwar.

The End of Suburbia
April 20, 2005, 7:30: A public screening and discussion
with guest speaker Milton Councilor Wendy Schau. How has the automobile
shaped our modern living spaces? What will happen to our suburbs
in the next 20 years as gasoline becomes more expensive?
The Halton NDP hosted a successful evening with
a surprise visit from The End of Suburbia Producer Barry Silverthorne.
That's Barry's car in the photo above. You can see more photos
in our gallery. A special thanks to
Wendy Schau. Her explanation of how Milton has adopted New Urbanism
principles helped to put this city's growth into perspective.
Since World War II North Americans have invested much of their
newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of space,
affordability, family life and upward mobility. As the population
of suburban sprawl has exploded in the past 50 years, so too the
suburban way of life has become embedded in the American consciousness.
Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American Dream.
But as we enter the 21st century, serious questions are beginning
to emerge about the sustainability of this way of life. With brutal
honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia explores the
American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet approaches
a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip
supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels
are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue in this
documentary.

She'll make them listen!

Riding Association Needs Volunteers
Sep. 1, 04
Our work in Halton continues. There is work to be done before
the next election, which some say will be sooner than 4 years.
We need to continue to grow by being visible in the community,
signing up new members and fundraising. As well we need to stay
organized by attending Provincial Council meetings, district Labour
Council meetings and community events. Our steering committee
is known as the riding executive. Don't let the name scare you.
We don't wear suits, drive limos and dine out at the expense of
the party. Our executive is made up of people just like you, people
who want to do more and stay involved, people who believe in social
justice, fair taxation and a cleaner environment. Most of our
executive members also work on other Halton committees with specific
agendas but we all know that to be heard, to really make a difference
and to make change happen you need a voice in government.
The executive meets once a month. Any Halton NDP member is welcome
to come out and join in the discussion and decision making. The
organizational work that the executive does is key to making the
NDP happen in Halton and the work is not trivial. Attending meetings,
synthesizing information, planning strategies and events and raising
funds keeps more than a few of us busy from month to month so
any help is appreciated. Keep checking back to this web site for
more information.
June 18
Anwar has done us proud at 3 all candidates' meetings, 2 TV interviews,
newspaper interviews and a multitude of questions on email and
telephone, not to mention all his canvassing and sign installing.
He continues to be a tireless worker, representing us well. Tonight's
TV all candidates' mtg found him in top form.
We have more signs and leaflets and we need your help to get them
out there.
The office will be closed Sunday.
There will be NO EPC meeting Sunday June 20. Happy Fathers Day
to all the dads on the team.
We're gearing up for election day so try to vote in an advanced
poll on Monday.
There are still some polls to canvas in Milton this week.
A few office slots are left to be filled for June 21 to 27. There
are always calls and other jobs to do there. Thanks to all of
you for your patience and hard work. Cheers, Brenda Dolling, Campaign
Manager
Campaign Office Open House
Anwar hosted an open house at the campaign office in Milton on
Sunday June 6. This was the official campaign kick-off. More of
our friends, families and supporters were able to make donations
to support the campaign. Brenda Dolling, campaign manager introduced
many of the volunteer staff.
- Linda Middaugh - office staff organizer
- Ken Hearns & Warren Nelson - signs
- Ali Naqvi - official agent
- Rocco Neglia - fundraiser
- Laura Easdale - canvass organizer
- Chris Neglia - youth representative
- .....and many others
A minute of silence was observed for the Canadian soldiers who
fell on D day 60 years ago today.
Anwar and other volunteers have already canvassed 1000's of Halton
residences and spoken to 100s of voters. This campaign we have
hit the ground running. But there is always more to do. We need
volunteers, even if you can give us 2 hours per week to:
- canvass & distribute flyers
- put up signs
- help out in the office
- scrutineer
- telephone friends and supporters
Remember, the Halton riding is a 3 way race. None of the candidates
are incumbents and with the riding boundaries changing past voting
trends are insignificant. You can help us to win the vote in Halton.
Make a Difference. Get Involved.

publicpower day at hamilton's confederation park
Today, Howard Hampton's
publicpower bus made its way across Ontario, and made a stop in
Hamilton to speak to the crowd at a barbeque celebrating publicpower
day. Darrel Dexter, Nova Scotia
NDP Leader and Leader of the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia
opened for Howard with an inspiring speech about NDP success around
the country, and the ONDP caucus and many Provincial Candidates
were on hand to show their support. Unfortunately Jay could not
attend due to work obligations, but Brenda and friends were there
showing off the "Tory Dirty Laundry Line".
August 9, 2003
the tory dirty laundry line appears at the georgetown and milton
farmers' markets
Our candidate, Jay Jackson and several gracious volunteers from
our riding association paraded the "Tory Dirty Laundry Line"
for all to see on this sunny Saturday morning at the Milton and
Georgetown farmers' markets. Devised by our ever-ingenious campaign
co-ordinator, Brenda Dolling, the Laundry Line is a visual presentation
of just some of the terrible things the Eves/Harris PCs have done
to the people of Ontario. This demonstration was effective in
that it was both amusing and informative; we had many smiles and
nods of recognition come our way during the event. For photos
of the events, take a look at our gallery.
February 20, 2003
jay jackson elected as ndp provincial candidate
The Halton Provincial/Federal Unified NDP Riding Association
at a General Meeting selected Jay Jackson to be our candidate
in the upcoming Provincial Election. We are very proud of Jay's
decision to put his name forward for another position of public
service. He has done this twice before in the provincial election
of 1999 and the federal election of 1996. His intelligence, integrity,
commitment and experience are just some of the reasons why we
are pleased that Jay Jackson is our candidate. Jay was nominated
by Brenda Dolling who ran as the NDP Federal Candidate in Halton
in 2000. |
